Meet Cowboy 🚀🐾

REST STOP COWBOY NEEDS A MIRACLE. PLEASE HELP US FIND HIS PERSON.

Some dogs are easy to love. They run into your arms, cover your face in kisses, and trust you before you've even learned their names.

Cowboy isn't one of those dogs. And that doesn't make him any less deserving of love.

Cowboy's story began with heartbreak. We trapped him at a rest stop, frightened and alone, with no way of knowing how long he'd been surviving on his own or what he'd been through.

When we scanned him for a microchip, we discovered he was registered to Friends of the Strays in Florida. We eventually learned that his adopters had lost him during a hurricane evacuation a year and a half prior.

Imagine the confusion. The fear. Everything familiar suddenly gone.

Unfortunately, neither his previous adopters nor the rescue can take him back. And so Cowboy remains with us, waiting for a place in this world where he can finally feel safe.

Here's what we want you to know about Cowboy:

  • Cowboy is an extremely fearful dog. Trust doesn't come easily to him, and affection must happen on his terms. He's not the dog who wants to be constantly hugged, kissed, picked up, or fussed over. He wants none of that.

  • But he has made progress!

  • We've leash trained him. He's house-trained, knows how to sit, and will even give you his paw. Beneath all that fear is a little dog who is learning how to navigate a world that has given him plenty of reasons to be afraid.

  • Cowboy needs an adult-only home. Children frighten him terribly, and placing him in a home with kids would not be fair to him or to the children.

And here's something wonderful about Cowboy:

  • He's great with other dogs!

  • He's great with cats!

  • He's even safe around chickens and rabbits!

  • He doesn't have accidents in the house.

  • He's neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped.

And his tongue? Well, apparently someone ordered him a tongue two sizes too big for his mouth, because that ridiculous little thing is constantly making an appearance!

He just needs someone willing to love him for who he is, respect his boundaries, and give him the security he's been missing.

We know Cowboy isn't going to be everyone's dream dog. But somewhere out there, we believe there's a person whose idea of companionship looks a whole lot like his.

A peaceful home. A predictable routine. A soft bed. A full belly. And the freedom to simply exist without being afraid. He absolutely loves hanging out in the yard.

PLEASE HELP US FIND THAT PERSON.
